Books To Get You Started On Becoming A Better Human

You’ve decided you need to spend some time understanding your relationship with body mind and how to be a better human. It’s no secret the spiritual and personal development industry is growing and becoming more and more saturated. Here are some of my picks that helped me become a better version of myself.

1. When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron

Don’t let the title scare you. It’s not a gloom-and-doom type book It’s actually quite the opposite. Pema Chodron, a Buddhist Nun and all over badass, helps you understand that things falling apart are sometimes a good thing, and helps you welcome the change and transformation.

2. 10% Happier by Dan Harris

This guy did so many drugs he had a panic attack on national tv. Then decided to give the spiritual thing a try. Forever cynical and practical, Dan Harris offers a no-bullshit approach to meditation. A great book for the cynical in all of us.

3. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

If you need a gentle and soft-spoken spiritual cheerleader to encourage you to be your best self, this book is for you. Eckart Tolle is a veteran in the space and draws from different traditions and religions but the message is simple: “All you have is the present moment, so don’t worry and be happy”.

4. Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach

Tara Brach is a psychotherapist who focuses on Buddhist meditation. She offers practical exercises and advises on how to start a meditation practice. Her advice is practical and helps us look at ourselves and our lives with acceptance and compassion

5. How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan

In short, this book changed my life. It offers a completely radical point of view on psychedelics and it’s use for the treatment of depression and anxiety. To top it off, he also talks about thorny subjects like consciousness and the meaning of life in a digestible and practical way. A must read.
